· Tax benefits: Even If you are a non-resident Indian, you’re allowed to relish most of the tax benefits that an Indian citizen enjoys. It is considered as the short-term capital gain and the earnings through the taxable properties only if you sell the property within three years of purchase. But in case you sell the property after three years, you will have the choice of reducing the long-term capital gains by investing in another property.

Things You Can Use To Maintain Your Home Post Monsoons

1. Patch the roof:
The roofs are constantly left moist in the rains which attract algae, fungi and mosquito breeding. It is ideal to get the roofs cleaned once the monsoons come to an end. Spotting algae, fungi and stagnant water where mosquitoes breed may not be very easy, climb to your roof and inspect to be certain– around the vents, skylights, walls, flashing, air conditioning elbows and stands, antennas and support wires and satellite dishes. Fill all the holes dug by birds & rains. Patch the cracks on the roof with a protector.


2. Trim the trees around your house:
Trim the trees so that heavy storm won’t affect your house. Trees and branches, if not cut before or during the rains may become weak and fall anytime. Likewise, dead or rotting branches can snap off and fly into windows. It is advisable that you trim them before it can cause any damage.


3. Take care of Dampness:
Due to excess moisture in air, wooden doors and windows get swelled because of which you might end up locking yourself. Oil can be used to prevent this. Vacuum the carpet once at least a week so that carpet will not smell of dampness.


4. Turn to professional help if you notice cracks:
Check all the possible places of your home and get help from professionals wherever needed. Cure the cracks and wall damages caused due to the rains. These cracks should be filled with modified waterproof mortar and sealed. Same can be used to seal joints of pipes to prevent it from any leakage. Check for termites or bumblebees as humid climate boosts their growth. Make sure floors are polished regularly and properly. Cupboard and tables are easily targeted by insects. Use neem leaves, camphor or cloves between clothes to keep insects away from it.

Drawing a line with that chalk will block them to get inside your house. You should draw lines again and again post monsoons, once the dampness goes to stop them or you can use other store-bought sprays and other pesticides to keep them away.

Celebrating Ganeshotsav – the Eco-way!!

Lord Ganesha – God of power and wisdom is worshipped all over India before initiating any work. Ganesh Chaturthi is the birthday of Lord Ganesha. It comes in the month of ‘Bhadrapad’ (August-September). Starting from Ganesh Chaturthi, people keep idols of Ganesha in their homes, offices and localities for 10 days accompanied with prayers, decorations and celebrations. On the 11th day, the Anant Chaturdashi, the statue of Ganesha is immersed in a water body, bidding him adieu and praying for his early arrival on Earth next year.

Though the celebrations are done with a lot of joy and happiness but after the festival especially after the immersion of the idols; the water bodies (seas, rivers and lakes) are often left polluted and dirty, harming water creatures and over and above ‘Mother Earth’.

  • This water pollution results in increased toxicity in water thus resulting in destruction of marine life and skin diseases and other problems for humans.

  3. Use traditional earthen lamps: Save energy and electricity by using earthen lamps to light up homes and temples instead of artificial lights.
